Strange Birds Porcelain Ornament
Inspired by illustrations in a late fifteenth-century Prayer Book illuminated by followers of Willem Vrelant of Bruges. Fantastical or comic figures like these strange birds, often combining elements of human and animal forms, were common illustrations in medieval texts and are referred to as grotesques or babewyns.
Each ornament is handmade in porcelain, handpainted and glazed to a high-gloss finish, and embellished with 22k gold luster accents. Each piece is unique and one-of-a-kind. Small marks and minor imperfections may be visible due to the nature of the handmade process.
Measures approximately 3.5” tall.
