Otis Lane Gravestone Wall Decoration
This stoneware wall decoration features a rubbing of a cherub from the gravestone of infant Otis Lane (d. 1803) at the Old Burial Ground in Sturbridge, MA. Often depicted as a chubby-cheeked infant with wings, the cherub symbolized love, protection, and divine intervention. It evolved from the death's head imagery and came to represent spiritual resurrection.
Each piece is handmade from speckled stoneware clay, fired raw (unglazed) for a textured and earthy appearance. Measuring approximately 8” wide and 4.5” tall, it comes with a faux leather cord for hanging but could also be displayed on a shelf or tabletop using a plate stand.
