"Red Riding Hood" Porcelain Folklore Egg

$75.00

Our Folklore collection of porcelain eggs draws inspiration from Pysanky, a tradition of egg decorating in Ukrainian culture that originated in Pagan times. Handcrafted in fine porcelain and painted in rich cranberry red, each egg showcases a scene from a beloved story alongside traditional Pysanky motifs.

This egg reimagines Little Red Riding Hood through the lens of traditional pysanky, blending folklore and symbolism into a talismanic story-object.

At its heart is a dark, thorn-laced version of the Tree of Life—twisted and haunting. Flanked by Little Red and the Wolf, the scene draws from the Hutsul tradition of depicting a central tree with figures (usually deer) on either side, here reinterpreted to reflect danger, innocence, and the tension between them.

Below the tree, a meander line in the form of a water motif encircles the egg, symbolizing both separation and the unending cycles of life. Protective bands above and below the water offer shielding through circular forms—symbols of eternity and the strongest defense against evil.

The egg’s ends are anchored by sheaves of wheat, a tribute to life's labor and the quiet resilience of the everyday—motifs commonly woven into pysanky as signs of sustenance and endurance.

Around the middle, an ornamental band of eight-pointed ruzha stars adds light and fortune. Even-pointed stars in pysanky are believed to bring success, and here they shine like guiding lights through the dark forest of the tale.

The egg measures approximately 2.5 inches in length and is permanently nestled into a polymer clay egg stand, ready for display on a shelf, mantle, or altar.
