"The Six Swans" Porcelain Folklore Egg

$95.00

Our Folklore collection of porcelain eggs draws inspiration from Pysanky, a tradition of egg decorating in Ukrainian culture that originated in Pagan times. Handcrafted in fine porcelain and painted in rich cranberry red with a high gloss finish, each egg showcases a scene from a beloved story alongside traditional Pysanky motifs.

At the center of our “Six Swans” egg is a tableau of the queen sewing enchanted shirts for her brothers, each stitch a step closer to restoring their human forms. The youngest brother, with one sleeve still missing, bears a wing in place of an arm, symbolizing his transformation. Surrounding them, six wild swans take flight around a six-pointed star, a cherished motif in Pysanky artistry. This star represents the passing of time, with each half symbolizing six months of the year, while the birds themselves carry deeper symbolism as harbingers of spring pushing away evil. Birds also traditionally represent the human soul and can act as a conductor between heaven and earth.

Adorning the sides of the egg, clouds and cattails offer a modern interpretation of traditional water and wheat motifs. While fish are relatively rare in traditional Pysanky, their appearance in this design pays homage to Ukrainian folktales, where they embody mystical creatures aiding heroes on their quests.

Celebrate the timeless themes of loyalty and sacrifice found in “The Six Swans” with this beautiful porcelain egg. Whether showcased on a mantelpiece, nestled in a decorative bowl, or gifted to a loved one, these eggs serve as captivating conversation starters, inviting you to delve into their intricate symbolism and return to the enchantment and wonder of classic folktales.

Each egg measures approximately 2.5 inches in length.

Note: This design has a notch cut in the underside for hanging on the wall using a hook or nail, if desired. See photos.
