The Wheel of Fortune Tarot Card Pint Glass

$35.00

This can-shaped pint glass features an etching of The Wheel of Fortune, the tenth Major Arcana card in traditional Tarot decks.

At the center is a giant wheel, which represents the perpetual motion of the universe. The face of the wheel is inscribed with the letters ROTA, which is Latin for “wheel” and an anagram of TARO, counterchanged with the Hebrew letters YHVH, the unpronounceable name of God. The center wheel is inscribed with the symbols for mercury, sulphur, water, and salt, the base elements of Western alchemy. In the form of a serpent, the Greek god Typhon (the deadliest monster in Greek mythology) descends the left side of the wheel. The Egyptian god Anubis (the god of death) ascends the right side of the wheel. On top of the wheel sits the sphinx, which symbolizes knowledge. The sphinx’s posture suggests stability against movement, while the descent and ascent of Typhon and Anubis suggest spiritual transcendence. The four corners of the image are occupied by the four Living Creatures of Ezekiel: a man, lion, ox, and eagle. Each of these winged creatures also represents one of the four fixed signs of the Zodiac: Aquarius, Leo, Taurus, and Scorpio. They signify fire, water, air and earth and also stand for four basic virtues: to know, to will, to dare, and to be silent. Each holds the Torah, representing wisdom.

• Meaning: Good luck, karma, life cycles, destiny, a turning point, changes, opportunity

• Element: Fire

• Ruling planet: Jupiter

Each glass is individually sandcarved in our studio, using compressed air and abrasive to actually carve away the glass for a stunning three-dimensional image that you can actually feel with your fingertip (you can read more about the sandcarving process on our “About” page). These glasses are made to last a lifetime, and the sandcarved image is completely permanent and dishwasher safe.

Each glass is handcrafted to order, so please allow 1 to 2 weeks of production time as we create one just for you. Please note that our stencils are designed after antique tarot cards that are more than 100 years old, age marks and printing flaws included. As with all handcrafted items, while our listing photos are a good representation of the design you are ordering, you can expect minor distinctions in the pint glass you receive, making it truly one of a kind.
